5Cs Participates in Climate Change Symposium- Building Climate Resilient Municipalities

The 5Cs participated in a Climate Change Symposium under the theme “Building Climate Resilient Municipalities” at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel in Belize City this week (10 – 11 June, 2014). The Centre maintained a booth during the two day exhibition and Ms Sharon Lindo, policy officer at the 5Cs, presented on “Integrating adaptation into development strategies and investments” and “Integrating climate change risks and opportunities into municipal planning“.

The Symposium also featured discussions on:

  • What is climate change
  • Regional vulnerability to climate change
  • Clean energy and climate change
  • Establishing early warning systems to enable timely evacuation
  • Geographical Information Systems
  • UWI addressing climate change
  • Diversifying tourism activities to prevent the loss of income from climate change
